We chose it for the colour. Pastel blue can easily turn sugary on a watch, and Azzurro gets it right, set against brushed steel and that layered display. It is the Labormatic we would hand to someone who thinks every serious watch has to be black, white or grey.PRJKT8
Azzurro is the Labormatic in a soft pastel blue, the shade that ran through Italian design during the post-war economic boom. Gagà Laboratorio added it beside the Cinquanta to give the series a fresher colour.
The face is built in layers rather than around hands. The hour appears as a number in a window at the top, the minutes are read from the middle ring, and a disc turns at the centre for the seconds. The crown sits at 12 o’clock under a steel cabochon, which leaves the sides of the round case clean.
The 42 mm stainless steel case is 13.3 mm thick, with a double-curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a sapphire caseback showing the La Joux-Perret LJP-G100 automatic and its personalised rotor. The power reserve is 68 hours. Water resistant to 50 m.
It comes on an azure Saffiano leather strap, handmade in Italy.
