This clock doesn't point at the time, it spells it out. Behind a front of glossy brown acrylic glass, a grid of letters lights up to read the hour in words, and small dots in the corners count the minutes in between.
The brown is screen printed onto the acrylic in several layers, and the polished surface picks up the room around it, so it reads darker or warmer depending on the wall and the light. Magnets hold the front in place: a cover in another colour or language can go on later, though Arabic fronts swap only for Arabic.
The EARTH 45 is 450 mm square and 22 mm deep, weighs about 4.8 kg and runs on a USB power supply, keeping to ±8 seconds a month. A light sensor sets the brightness to suit the room.
