Arachnophobia 'Gold Plated'

Arachnophobia is exactly what the name warns of: a spider in gold-plated brass, 405 mm across with its legs laid flat, that happens to tell the time. MB&F imagined it; L'Epée 1839 engineered it.

The body is an L'Epée movement reshaped. The head holds the balance, beating at 2.5 Hz, the abdomen holds the mainspring barrel, and curved hands sweep the hours and minutes over a polished dome carrying MB&F's numerals. Eight legs turn on ball-and-socket joints, so it can stand 203 mm tall, lie flat, or raise its front legs in warning.

Wind it and set it with the key underneath, and it runs for 8 days. It has 218 components, finished with Geneva waves and polished bevels, and it comes with a wall bracket if you would rather it watched the room from above.
