Freak One OPS

Description

Ulysse Nardin is a pioneer of innovations in timekeeping, not least for its unprecedented mastery of silicium, which it introduced to Haute Hor- logerie in the first Freak timepiece, in 2001. Now it audaciously pushes the technology further by welding it—another patented first—with solid nickel elements, to create an astonishingly light balance wheel. It then adds silicium micro-blades to stabilize amplitudes and significantly in- crease accuracy.

The Grinder Automatic Winding System, which completely revolution- izes energy transmission, surpassing existing systems for efficiency by a factor of two. Grinder takes perfect advantage of even the slightest movement of the wrist. The oscillating rotor is linked to a frame contain- ing four arms, which gives the automatic system twice the torque – like having four pedals on a bike instead of two – while a flexible guidance mechanism drastically limits friction.

Specifications

Hours: The hour wheel arbor is carried by the barrel-drum. The wheel rolls in the fixed rack and drives the center-pinion. An arrow applied on the bar- rel indicates the hour. The barrel contains the mainspring and makes one complete rotation in a 12 hour period.

Minutes: The carrousel movement is assembled onto the center-pinion. Its first wheel rolls on the fixed rack and gathers the necessary power to main- tain the oscillation of the balance. The baguette movement rotates once in 60 minutes, and so serves as the minute hand.

Setting the Freak One: A lock situated at 6 o’clock between the horns of the case permits releasing and locking of the bezel. The bezel can be turned in either direction. Upon correctly setting the time, push the guard back into position. This will lock the bezel, preventing involuntary changes of the time.

Manual winding: Turning the case-back counter-clockwise winds the main spring.

Water-resistance: The Freak One is an example of time-keeping art; it is not a sports watch. Its construction was conceived to resist normal, everyday environmen- tal stress. Normal movements, accidental splashes of water, and tem- perature changes will not affect the smooth running of the Freak One. However violent shocks or dropping the watch on a hard surface may damage the watch. Additionally, swimming or showering must be avoided as well.
