Hiili is Finnish for coal, and the dial earns the name: matt black, printed in silver, with a small moon in a window that glows once the lights go down.
The Kaaos is the 20th-anniversary edition from S.U.F Helsinki and Sarpaneva Watches, and S.U.F says it is the first of its watches to carry Sarpaneva’s moon face. The moonphase is made in-house at the Sarpaneva workshop, hand-painted in white Super-LumiNova on this piece, and set from the crown across its 29.5-day cycle.
Inside is a modified Swiss Soprod A10: automatic, 42 hours of power reserve, on view through the open caseback. The 38.7 mm Outokumpu steel case is water resistant to 100 m. Limited to 20 pieces per variation, on black Nordic elk, with a Grassbay strap too.
